Portraits

We are human.  We are imperfect.  We are fascinating.

I was inspired by the directness of Chuck Close and the humor of Robert Arneson in creating these larger than life portraits.

I prefer charcoal due to its tactile quality and its versatility from powder to conte.  Some of these pieces explore the idea of body identity.  I question what is at our core, our sense of body, and how we use them.

The final four pieces are collectively titled For Sale.  Each are 5'x9' and are inspired by advertisements.  The figures are a composite of poses found in women's magazines and the products they proposed to be selling.
